I think I've only played about a quarter of the games on the list, but most of those I'd say were justified to be on there. Not really sure about R-Type Final and F-Zero GX. There are better shooters than R-Type Final and F-Zero GX was too hard for its own good.

Final Fantasy XII the only FF on there, at 97

No Goldeneye, Sensi Soccer, Cannon Fodder, etc. Okay fair enough if you're gonna not include old games, but then Tetris in the top ten?

And all the other usual gripes about it being skewed towards the newest games, weird treatment of 'series' games, etc.

No Transport Tycoon! Surely one of the best business/transport/trains ever. And demolishing a city because a rival had a better station was always fun.

Oh, and no Repton either? Rubbish.

I've played 64 of those and for the record, I preferred Halo 4 to Halo 3.

Oh, and the lack of Monkey Island or Sam and Max just shows that this list is worthless.

I never thought Cannon Fodder was all that good. I'd have put SWOS on there though. I'd have liked to have seen The Binding of Isaac on there too, but I suspect it's a bit of a love/hate type of game.

It actually looks like there's no sports games on there at all. No NHL94 on the Megadrive? Travesty.

No Speedball 2 either. Honestly, do these people know anything about games? Typical failing media. #MAGA

I've put a lot of hours into Speedball 2. I had it on my Gameboy Advance which meant I was playing it everywhere I went. I don't think there was any end to it. You just got top of the league and carried on beating all the teams beneath you.

I doubt many people would bemoan F-Zero GX in the list. I played it recently and it's still shockingly good looking with some magnificent track layout (why no one has tried to replicate the race around the pipework in that lava level I don't know), has a thumping soundtrack and has responsive controls. There's no noticeable rubber banding either for a racing game. I honestly don't think you can just discount it because it's subjectively "too hard".

R-Type Final however is clearly no match whatsoever for Gradius V which remains the best side scrolling shooter I've ever played. The levels were interesting and still have some of the most innovative challenges in a shooter to date which R-Type just can't boast. I was never a fan of Final's sometimes bland polygonal graphics to Gradius V intricate pixels.

I should probably give F-Zero GX another chance. No argument on Gradius V though. There are plenty of shooters I'd rather play than R-Type Final - Radiant Silvergun, Soukyugurentai, Raiden III etc

Played 77 not played 23.

Of the 23 not played I'd probably like to play about 3 of them.

Of the 77 played I've completed 55 of the ones that have a completion state (so I'm counting Tetris for example as the Gameboy original I played it on had an ending).

Why 13 year olds? All of Ueda's work is in there and they are considered some of the most emotionally affecting games produced not just shoot-em-up bang bang games like CoD.

Curio, did they have a preface to the list? Something that gives an idea of how they compiled their list?

Not played 21 but that includes things like Civ4 (when I've played a lot of previous Civ games) - the only one in the top in the top 20 i've not played is Bayonetta 2 and thats just because i dont have a Wii-u

Doom (2016) is rated so high.

Played only 27 of them. Who on earth voted for them? 13 year olds?

Why 13 year olds? All of Ueda's work is in there and they are considered some of the most emotionally affecting games produced not just shoot-em-up bang bang games like CoD.

Doom (2016) is rated so high.

And that makes the list childish?

The list is shit is essentially what I'm getting at.

Is it really shit or do you just disagree with it? I thought Doom (2016) was a brilliant game. Well deserving of a place on a 'best of' list.

I've just checked and noticed that they've put Dead Space above it. S'all subjective innit?

Doom (2016) would be troubling my top ten.

I'm not sure. You're asking the wrong person to be honest. I rarely think anything is shit :)

Do they set out criteria for what makes a game worthy? A list of the most ground-breaking, genre-changing games would be different to a list of the games that are the most fun to play after a hard day, after all. We also need to factor in changing technology and expectations because what was impressive in 1982 isn't going to be as shocking as something released today.

Naturally, if the number of times a person plays a game is the sole metric, the world would be split into two opposing factions: Minesweeper fans and Solitaire freaks.
