So... Could we get rid of Chris Evans and get five and a half more Fiona Bruces?

No it's nurses, all the salaries seem to be getting broken down into how many nurses we could get for that money.

They say that Graham Norton is earning closer to 2.5 million, a lot of it comes via a production company so its not counted in the BBC report.

Would also guess that Chris Evans is the same.

That is an appalling waste of money. Literally anyone could do what Alex Jones does. At least people vaguely car to hear an ex footballer's opinion on football.

Huw Edwards? He's not even one of the main news presenters any more. Guess he does other stuff as well?

Doesn't he want to take on the big state events job (even though that would be in violation of the Dimbleby Act)?

As for the others, I reckon the commercial companies would probably offer them more. But I'm not too fussed by this - a world class broadcaster probably does need to pay to get and keep this talent.

And for a program that earns the BBC millions in revenue paying the star between 200 - 250k is a bargain :

The worst thing is you know this will be on the front pages of tomorrow's Daily Mail etc - "waste of taxpayer's money, Chris Evans, blah blah blah..."

I can't say I'm all that bothered, to be honest. We could all scan that list and say he's worth it, or she's not and so on.

To be fair, spending any money on Chris Evans is a colosal waste of money.

And how do these figures stack up against commercial companies? I wonder how much Clarkson et al get paid by Amazon, for example…

You need to pay good money to keep good talent. I'm happy my licence fee is spent in this manner, otherwise it's a race to the bottom and all the good talent leaves. Just feels like petty envy to me.

I think for the audiences that they entertain, the large majority of those salaries seem to be in an entirely justifiable range, with the possible exception of the couple right at the top.

There's a few positions in the list relative to each other that seem a little odd, but then you could say the same about most work places.

Nothing I could get particularly bothered about.

Eddie Mair was very good on PM.

Oh yeah, the gender pay gap is wrong though. Clare Balding should not be earning one-tenth of what Gary Lineker earns.

Yeah, I'm not overly concerned with the amounts, but the pay gap. Would recommend listening to today's PM.

I wonder about that comparison though and other factors. For example Clare balding is freelance for defined events as she also does a lot of channel four work. Lineker and Norton are on BBC only contracts I think, and the week in week or nature of MOTD is restrictive anyway. Also Evans will pick up both his radio and Tv work.

For the one show presenters also isn't a true position as Matt baker sells countryfile calendars every Sunday too.

I've no doubt a pay gap remains but I'm fairly sure that the extreme position of what appears to be tenfold difference isn't wholly representative.

I'm not sure if I agree or disagree - on the one hand I dislike her intensely so think she's paid too much, but on the other I don't think whatever lineker does justifies his money either.

Nothing to do with gender though.

Lineker does BT Sport, as does Balding. It's daft to look at this money as if they're all doing a 35-hour week at a desk though.

It's just another stick for its commercial rivals to thrash the BBC with. I still think the Beeb is one of the best things about this country, and something we should be proud of.

Presumably Evans' pay includes his stint on Top Gear.

The BBC is a gem, it would/will be sorely missed if/when it's gone.

Not sure where the push for this came from? Also read that a lot of people the BBC pay are not included on the list as they are paid through production company's. David Dimbleby, David Attenborough and Mary Berry are not on any list. So its not really a complete picture.

Yes there are some gender gaps on pay, but no data to see how the BBC stack up against commercial channels.

Is it me, or are the female presenters on BBC Breakfast a lot more dolled up since the pay revelations? They all suddenly seem to have on extra-nice dresses and to have spent several hours in hair and makeup every morning since....

I'm fully prepared to accept that it's just me imagining things in my pre-morning-caffeine brain.

The idea of me dolled up, though... I mean, my appearance scares small children as it is.
