Hello chums! A colleague is going out in Oxford, and wants recommendations on places to go.

He wants to know if there is:
a fancy restaurant
a jazz club
a good bar
a good night club (if the jazz club closes early)

The nearer the town center, the better. Can anyone help (I'm looking at you, Kern)?

a fancy restaurant

Gee's on the Banbury Road.
The restaurant on top of the Ashmoleon Museum.
Pierre Victoire on Little Clarendon Street.
Some like Quod on the High but I've never been in.

a jazz club

I've never heard of one. Check 'Daily info', the local what's on guide. A quick question to Kindly Uncle Google turned up this place but I've never heard of it.

a good bar

All the posh cocktail bars are in or near the Jerico part of town. Freuds or the Duke of Cambridge are probably the best.

For proper drinks, the White Rabbit, the Bear, the Far from the Madding Crowd, the Eagle & Child (a must for Tolkein or CS Lewis fans), the Turf, the King's Arms, the Lamb and Flag, St Aldate's Tavern, the Chequers...

a good night club (if the jazz club closes early)

Not a clubbing person.

But, you all need to come here some time. We have great pubs, cool museums, punts, and a board game café.

+1 The Turf. I love that place (as did Rev Owen.)

Definitely go to the Eagle & Child to geek out and feel like magic.

Also, I saw a Japanese lady eating THE LARGEST BURGER IN THE WORLD in the Eagle in Child. You've probably seen bigger, probably eaten bigger, but it was the biggest I had ever seen.

Freuds is really good. Duke of Cambridge is nice, too. Quod is OK but I would recommend Gees. No idea about clubs.

Shortly after the ROYAL WEDDING they changed the sign to show the current Duke.

The Turf is great, especially when you're sitting outside, but when it gets busy the two bars (each serving different ales) always feel understaffed.
