To be fair, I thought Palm was Town on Day One, and said as much.

Now, with the information Grim... has given us we could of course have the opportunity to off both him AND Zaphod/some other mafia suspect in one day phase.

The smilies thing sounds so crazy as to be plausible... And Grim... says if we have two top-hat posts we can basically make him self-destruct. If what he says about the smilies changing allegiance is true then he is kind of dangerous due to coordinated mafia posting anyway, so if this is the case it would make sense to do away with Grim... who is, after all, currently mafia, and we can do that without even wasting our lynch if what he says is true.

The danger comes in that if this is a mafia half-truth ie: If the posting of two top hats in a row actually has some detrimental effect on the people doing the double top-hatting.

Grim... is surviving on the ida that he could soon be town, in which case the mafia will surely want to do away with him...

So, do we believe and keep him alive? I thin it is more sensible to kill him as it is only his state of being at the end of the last day that will matter, and this is currently unknowable, and therefore dangerous.

Making him 'suicide' as it were would give us a good chance in the numbers game, but is dangerous in case it is a double bluff.

Would the more clever play, therefore, be to ask those we think are the top likely candidates for Mafia: (Zaphod), for example, to test their mettle by posting the top hat smilies?

Of course it's not true! What possible reason could he have for posting how to kill him! Even if he's telling the truth then when he switches he's just told the Mafia how to kill him! Which they'd do, because he must know who they are!

And as he's said the dead thread counts, Gazchap could do it at any time, the living Mafia wouldn't even have to out themselves to do it.

That doesn't quite make sense. Grim... is mafia (for now, at least, or always...) either way, if Grim... is mafia, and the mafia can do something to benefit them then they would have already done it. We wouldn't need to ask then to do it. If posting two top hat smilies gave the mafia a double kill, or invincibility... who knows, then Grim would just tell his mafia buddies to do it to their advantage.

Yes, that's a good point. It might be worth working out how to use night roles - then again discussing it in the open could very much give the Mafia exactly the info it needs on who to target unless we play it exactly right.
