Hello, all.
As you may or may not know, we want to run this site in as 'open' a way as possible. Several people know the main admin password (in case I go nuts and do something odd), and moderators try to do as little actual moderating as possible.

We have the same moderator setup as WoB had (with a few exceptions - myself, for example) purely for ease of transfer. We've always said we're going to let you choose your moderators, and that's still the case.

There are a few more technical things that I personally need to get done before the board will be 'ready', so I propose that we have a vote for new moderators on the 1st - 3rd May, and every six months thereafter.
Anyone that would like to be included in a list of members to vote for can either PM me or get in touch in this thread.

A vote for Zardoz is a vote for freedom.

That would be fine if (a) you realised the difference between a typo and the inability to spell, and (b) being a good moderator required the ability to spell.

I had kindly assumed it was a spelling error (after all, we can't be expected to know every word ever), rather than suggesting you simply can't type - which suggests incompetence and a lack of ability. But if you would prefer that we saw you that way, that's your choice, beyotch.

Also, I have it on good authority that Zardoz sniffs the back of his pants, whenever he takes them off at night.

After much thought and consideration, I wish to nominate myself.

Should you elect me as your moderator I promise to be fair and kind. I live my life by the rules of Alan, and I will pass on his wisdom to you all. Praise be to Alan!

On a serious note, have we considered making it a requirement that if you nominate yourself, someone should second you? That will hopefully cut down on the number of names on the voting form.

What do you think?

I'm unsure. I like the idea (less work for me!) but it would make people sad if no-one seconded them.

We can make the results private, I think, and then just announce the winnars, to save embarrassment, but whilst leaving the mods able to see the results.

Well as I've said before I'm happy to help, but not if it's going to make someone cry into their pot noodle because they feel worthless at not being chosen. I'm just usually around and fine with pulling someone up by the boot straps if need be (not that I wouldn't do that anyway ;) ).

I have no qualms about telling everyone they're being silly and to stop it now before I unleash the hounds.

Also I have lived with students, council tax bill-hiding stoners, mad irish menopausals, people who blow their nose on twelve tissues and just leave them lying on the sofa, people who try to fix the sound on the tv by cutting the power cable to the central heating in February, and a pregnant woman. And I have yet to murder anyone or even call them a cockchafer and set fire to their stuff.

I am the voice of reason and understanding. FEAR M... I mean, vote for me!

Failing that, I vote for Grimdotdotdot. Dot.

We're not voting yet, only volunteering (again). It was suggested that nominees be seconded, so Dimrill nominated Grim... He doesn't need a third. :? :ugeek: I have no idea what those mean. I hope they are suitably friendly and demonstrative of my good intent. MY GUN PORTS ARE CLOSED.

Also, I second Sinister Agent, coincidentally.

Also - I'm setting an arbitrary deadline for volunteering/seconding - you have until 5.30. PM. Wednesday the 9th. Of April. 2008. AD.

If we do have seconding, perhaps the volunteer deadline should be Wednesday, a list is posted and then there is a 24 hour period for seconding? Otherwise it gets messy as I haven't got a clue who has seconded who.

I do like the seconding idea as it cuts down the amount of people in the final vote making it more manageble and easier to administer.

That isn't a good enough reason. There's no reason required, but if one were, that'd be rubbish. Dimrill, Myoptika have the right idea, though I don't necessarily agree with their choices.

Won't admin be able to moderate anyway? I thought it was just a couple of extras to help out that we were volunteering/voting for.

No, all your current moderators will revert to 'normals' on the 1st May, and five new moderators will be sworn in (ie. I'll click the button). CUS and I do indeed know the admin login details, but we've never used them.

The reason the date is a month away is so I can finish off making any changes to the forum that are outstanding before the 'handover'. Speaking of which, I need another thread to talk about that.
