Much to my distress I've just gone to hook up my master system to the tv only to discover that I haven't got the correct kind of RF cable. It's not a standard tv aerial, which I thought it was, and after poking around in my loft I can't find another. I even drove to Comet to see if they had something which could work, but they don't have anything I could fiddle to make work. Arrragh!

If anyone has one and would like to sell it for me cheaper than the £2.70 I'd have to pay on ebay, that'd be ace. Also, anyone with a few MS games for sale? My collection consists of 2 games at the moment.

I thought I had loads... but they're all being used. :(

I think you should just spend the £2.70... on a copy of Loot and see if anybody is selling a NES near you for £2, and get a cable with that. :P

Oooh, I have a shoddy not particulary working Master System, which means I have a RF thingy and some games I'm willing to get rid off!

Right I have the following:

Strider
Great Volleyball (box but no cover)
Olympic Gold
Lemmings
Zillion II
Submarine Attack
Asterix
Sonic the Hedgehog II
Enduro Racer
California Games
Moonwalker
Super Monaco GP
Castle of Illusion: starring Mickey Mouse (fucking excellent game)

Non of which I've tried because I bouht them with a Master System Plus that doesn't work properly. As such I also have:

Laser Gun
RF cable (Just a cable, not an official one)
2 controllers

Not sure about what I want for em. Make me an offer. Postage will be a lot though.

I'd quite like all of the above. I would go for the light gun too except I'm fairly confident they don't work on LCD tvs.

As for what to offer, I'm not sure. What's the master system game market like these days? I'm happy to concur with an average ebay price.

Hah, yes. How dare they fail to see the emergence, twenty years later, of TVs that didn't rely on the cathode ray tube! What are they, morans?

You don't really need a special RF cable for one. If you have one that you connect from VCR to TV you can use that. Just squash the VCR end a little to make it grip and you'll be fine.

Erm, so as I decided that my Master System was properly broken and so I was selling the stuff to you, I decided I might as well crack open the machine and see if I could fix it.

And well, against all odds. I actually have.

So erm I'm not sure I want to sell the stuff now (give me an evening to think)....

Sorry. I feel bad.

(I took the top off, and initally attempt to bend the cartridge connectors figuring that was why it wasn't reading games. That wasn't possible, so instead I just cleaned the contacts with Nail Varnish Remover (of oyster card desolving fame), and it's all good now.)

This is not the furiously angry response I was expected. Who are you, and what have you done with the real CG?

I'm sleepy today. I've also reserved my furious anger for the fucking ceiling I'm trying to paint. I've carefully filled a few unsightly holes, sanded it, wiped off the dusty excess and then painted it. It was all going swimmingly until, like fucking always, the filler and paint peels away as I run the roller over it, making another gap I'm going to have to refill. ARARAAGAGH.

Yeah sorry Comical, but now I've got the Master System working I'm over the moon, so there is no way I'm going to sell it you now. My bad. But thanks for making me try cracking it open. I should try and fix more things.

I'm even tempted to try and fix my DS's shoulder buttons....

I was playing Sonic 2 last night, and I always looked down on it as an inferior sequal to the excellent first game, and I'm totally wrong. It's truely awesome.

It makes me very sad that Master System Sonic Games are the best platformers ever made, and yet no one knows it... :(

Which bit of the RF cable are you missing? The original SMS one had a metal(!) switch-box on the RF cable, with "Television" and "Computer" labelled on it (presumably a hangover from the SG3000?).

When I first dug my SMS out, I found it was missing the cable between the console and the switch box, but closer investigation showed this was just a standard phono plug, so I dug out a plain yellow one that came with my AV switcher and it worked a charm.

I've since upgraded to an RGB Scart, but I'm reluctant to let go of the RF until I finish pimping the SMS to play FM and run in Japanese mode, in case I do something catastrophic.

It's a scart lead. It looks like a lead with a SCART plug on the end...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RGB-SCART-AV-RF-C ... .m14.l1318

Buy that. Yes I know it says MD, it'll fit an MS1.

I actually have an MS1 and MS2, so I need a cable for both. It's ok, I'll just grab the standard one ;)

I also have an RGB Scart for my mk1 Megadrive (and Master System), and it does indeed look the dog's dangly bits compared to RF on the telly. Also means you'll have no problem running it at 60Hz should you decide to do that mod (which is a total piece of piss for the Megadrive - can't imagine it's much harder to do on the SMS)
