Stupid, stupid, stupid thing.

Stupid stupid stupid FTP, stupid site. Won't connect. I do not know why. It was connected, fine, I was backing things up - all was going well, then it hangs. I haven't been able to reconnect it for two hours. Hmph.

Is this a normal occurrence?

Some servers will only allow 1 connection per FTP at once. If your previous login has hanged, and is still hanging, then that'd be why you can't log in. Eventually it should time out and you should be able to reconnect. Either that or the whole server is borked at the moment.

So it may well be the type of problem that fixes itself? My kind of problem.

Perhaps get in touch with your web hosting provider, they may be able to give you a more solid answer

But yeah, it's almost certainly just that the number of FTP connections has been exceeded - your FTP program might even be set up to try and connect to the same server multiple times to try and download more than one file at once.

It's flump, and, frankly, their customer service is a bag of manure from past experience. I'll move once I am finished getting this site done, I think.

Really? That's interesting. I've been using Flump for the best part of 6 years now and their customer service has always been shit hot.

Not to me (both my problems have been in the last couple of months, so maybe it has nosedived...)

In one instance I emailed them regarding payment they had deducted from my account three times, got the automated reply, someone will get back to me in 24 hours. No-one did for three days. Tried again - same thing. Tried again - same thing. Phoned them, nobody available to speak, or they are all on the phone, or out to lunch, in meetings, will call me back in half an hour. This went on daily for five whole weeks before I finally got through to someone who said they "didn't offer phone support, I should have emailed". If he had been standing in front of me I would have throttled him, having just told him as I did of the numerous times I emailed them. Anyway, yes, they were pretty appalling and I had to claim the money back through my card company in the end.

Ahh, for a second there I thought that "Flump" was one of those words that people say instead of swearing, like fiddlesticks, and Mimi was just politely venting her rage at the whole thing. "It's flump, and they're all a bunch of flumping flumpers!"

Wow, I've never experienced that sort of stuff.
