Cotton thread inside the sleeve ends of my t-shirts eventually goes all scratchy and hard. Will using normal fabric softener stuff save my shirt from painful unwearableness or do I need to use special something?

Sounds like nylon. Have you dried it very hot in a tumble dryer?

You want a Non-bio washing powder. Fairy + comfort pure. Only absolute safe combination out there.

Someone explain washing powder to me. Being in the washing powder isle at a supermarket is one of the most stressful things that occurs in my life.

Basically bio can irritate and non-bio is better for sensitive skins. Other than that, buy whatever is on sale...unless its a no brand which then it is probably crap.

I'm not sure that bio/non bio will resolve scratchy. Allergies, maybe.

If you're from an 80s hair-metal band, yes.

There are a couple of Bice ranges if gentle, perfume and colour free environmentally cleaner washing liquids. I can't remember the names if either, but one us in a White box/bottle (whole range of products) with green text and the other is in a bottle with a blue cloudy sky printed on it.

I have quite sensitive skin and neither of these gives me any kind if reaction. They do fabric conditioners, too.

Might be Ecover?
The Co-op own brand stuff is supposedly pretty good, both skin and and enviromentally friendly. Possibly doesn't work so well on those HARD TO SHIFT BLOOD AND GROUND IN DIRT problems though. Which I'm sure we all struggle with.

GY, if you're not using a softener then I'd try that first as it's likely your cheapest option. Also, you've only said its the thread being hard, not that the rest of the fabric is irritating you, so I'd tackle that first.

Are you sure it's not the other way around? biological organisms can only absorb biological compounds, which is probably why bio irritates skin...

maybe..

Like I said: Confusing mess.

Correct, this is why non-bio is always recommended for baby clothes.

This thread has cursed one of my fave t-shirts. >:(

I simply cut off the scratchy corners of the label though.
