What are we using for zipping these days, people? It must be free and non-nagging.

Or if windows 7 can archive, please tell me how because it's not obvious

Windows 7 can do it. Right-click a file -> Send to -> Compressed (zipped) folder.

I still use 7Zip.

It would struggle to be more obvious. Right click -> New -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.

I liked WinRAR when I was still on Windows. Used to use it for massive archives for projects. Then I got Blu-Ray and Toast on the Mac and couldn't be fucked compressing and splitting any more :-)

Mac OS X has a built in Zip compression function, much the same as Windows 7 does.

PeaZip is the best and fastest one I've found, can zip to tons of different file types, and is free.

I only zip to mail docs...

I use 7zip these days. It's less mouthy than I remember winRAR being, but winRAR was basically just as good a year or two ago. Presumably still is.

Yes but RAR lets you do so much more in terms of archiving. But as I say, I no longer use it.

You are correct, however the problem comes when people use 7zip or gzip to create a zip file, because they use proprietary compression that the windows zip handling can't understand.

The Mac throws a wobbler on some files as well.
