I've just watched the begining of Aliens, and Ripley has just woken up after almost 60 years in hypersleep and I just got to wondering would you choose to do that if the technology was there to do it and how long would you go under for?

It's a bit scary. I mean, you could go into suspended animation in a world where Amstrad control a third of the European computer market, and then you could wake up in a world where nobody has an Amstrad computer and people just make jokes about GX4000's and emailers.

Tell someone in advertising to invest on your behalf, then go in for 200 years. Wake up, help overthrow the government, then overthrow the people who overthrew them, and you're golden.

Try not to get killed by african mercenaries, though. That's the one flaw in the original plan.

I'd only do it for travel we couldn't manage in our relatively short lifetimes, otherwise I'd happily live out my days in my own time.

Fuck living in a future where everyone you knew & loved had died off years before you woke up.

Can I cheat and wake myself up for four months every ten years? Say I live another fifty years (in normal terms) - I could see every decade until 3511!

Anyway, who says you have to outlive everyone? Instead of waking up when they're all dead, you could wake up when everyone you know is suddenly 15 years older than you, and then rub it in their face for like, ever.

This would also mean that you'd have a better shot of sleeping with lots of young women you know, who have started to realise how little of the attention they used to get from men was due to their scintillating personalities rather than their chebs.

Also if you went in for about 30 or 40 years, you'd be quite handy in a pub quiz.

Sod that I've got enough games to play now, let alone going to sleep for 250 years.
