You played excellently and probably deserved better. A score of 292 is the 2nd highest total in a 50-over match by an ICC associate member (I think Zimbabwe got over 300 back in the early 90s). Ryan ten Deschoete scored a century, which is good in itself, but the fact he smashed 119 from 100 balls meant he had an excellent strike rate, also (a run a ball is considered good at this level, and this was better than that).

England's bowling and fielding was terrible, though. Very unlike us from the last couple of years.

The best site to use is http://www.cricinfo.com.

any highlights on bbc1/2? (the did give the cwc 5 mins attention on monday, so they might do today)

and outrage that in 2015 only the top 10 will be invited, might kill the sport over here
http://cricketuniverse.blogspot.com/201 ... ms-in.html

(no world cup = is no national olympic comittee funding)

They're expanding the Twenty20 tournament to 16 teams, though. Given the hammerings that Canada and Zimbabwe have had so far, they want to make sure there aren't as many one-sided games. I'm not sure, though. Hopefully Netherlands would still qualify along with the eight Test playing nations (there would be two places up for grabs for associate sides).

Not sure about highlights. It'll either be Channel 5 or ITV4, I expect.

Cripes, that was the most shocking display in the field I've ever seen from an England team. Good to see Colly and Bopara see us home, though, although I think Ravi will be dropped for Yardy in the next match.

good to see the dutch team being so positive there.. gave at least a positive vibe in the media..

cricket in holland has been played for a long time, most football clubs from the early days (1879-1900) started as joined football and cricket clubs..

I thought it was because of the exact opposite reasons, ie teams like Ireland and NL taking the place of countries like Pakistan and India in the 2007 world cup (although just checking it was Ireland and Bangladesh that did that)

I noticed that Cricket Revolution is 99p on Steam at the moment, perhaps to cash in on interest in the World Cup. I thought about posting it in the bargains thread but I don't know if the game is actually any good yet - I bought it last night but have yet to install it.

That's supposed to be hardcore. I haven't played it, but read about it when it was in development.

Well, the England bowling and fielding circus continues. Hit 327 against Ireland, and then let them get it with comparative ease. It's the highest run chase ever by any side in a World Cup.

Basically, by pretty much any standard you can give, it's the worst ever bowling/fielding performance by any team in history.

Plus the fastest World Cup century in history, smashing Matthew Hayden's record by a whopping 16 balls!

I wouldn't go that far. It seems to be a simply astonishing performance by O'Brien, as they were way off the run rate before he came in (although they did drop him a few times).

I've veered from thinking what a cracking Ireland performance to 'why couldn't we bowl out a team who couldn't chase 202 last week????' Gah!

Chase 202 against BANGLADESH. And get bowled out in 45 overs. For 178.

It's almost like we're playing terribly. See, for instance, the match against the Dutch. 292-6 against us... skittled all out for 115 against the Windies.

We're averaging giving up around 315 runs per innings this World Cup... and 2 of the 3 matches we've played have been against minnows that have failed to even get near 200 against anyone else!

It's a damn shame, as our batsmen are actually playing pretty well. I figure we just need to bowl first and let them chase shit down, because we are awful at protecting even large totals.

The cynic in me is saying that Pieterson would rather miss the world cup than the IPL and so has brought his operation forward...

Either way, as long as we're allowed to bring in Eoin Morgan - result!

He's most likely going to miss the IPL as well. Apparently it's because he's in too much pain and he wants to be fit for the first Test of the summer.

So, Canada vs Kenya. In what other global competition would you have these countries playing each other?

I'm not so sure, I wouldn't be surprised to see him make a quicker than expected recovery. Mr Cricket and Eoin Morgan have managed it! (although I don't think either of them planed it that way!)

Just seen an interview with New Zealand Captain Daniel Vettori, and if you took away his beard, I think you'd have an image of our very own retired space pirate...

I liked the New Zealand tactics today.

Bat really slowly and then unleash hell in he last five overs... 92 runs in 4 overs... 23 runs an over.

Bish bash and quite literally bosh.

Also, any cricket fan not following Andy Zaltzman on Twitter is a FOOL!

It's a good thing I don't care about any form of Cricket other than Test (due to not being cricket and all) else I'd be feeling rather depressed.

To be fair, the England matches have been the best thing about this tournament, it's just a shame we haven't won more of them.

REally good win by England yesterday, but everyone seems to be saying that if Bangladesh win, then India must beat WI, but what if the WI beat India by 150 runs or so, surely that would make India's net run rate was lower than England and then England would go through, or am I missing something.

Cricinfo says the rules are as follows:

Quote:
In the event of teams finishing on equal points in its Group, the right to play in the quarter-finals will be decided in the following order of priority:

* The team with the most wins in the Group matches will be placed in the higher position.

* If there are teams with equal points and equal wins in the Group matches then in such case the team with the higher net run rate in the Group matches will be placed in the higher position (refer below for the calculation of net run rate).

Both India and England would be on 7 points with 3 wins, so surely Net RR would be the factor? and if the WI bat first and scored 300+ and then bowled out India for less than 200, then as far as I can work out their (India's) net run rate would be negative?

I've not seen anyone mentioning this, so I must have missed something. I just can't see what (or is it just that it's so unlikely?)

It's because nobody thinks that the Windies willl hammer India.

Immaterial now, as Bangladesh got slaughtered by the Saffers.

Windies have had awful collapses in their last three games, they definitely deserve to go home. Pakistan look ominous, though.

I don't think we'll beat Sri Lanka. India and South Africa to be the other semi-finalists.

I would shed a tear, but for some reason I'm all dry.

Windies have had awful collapses in their last three games, they definitely deserve to go home. Pakistan look ominous, though.

I don't think we'll beat Sri Lanka. India and South Africa to be the other semi-finalists.

South Africa and WI were must win games.

England have already beaten the best team in the tournament and drew with the 2nd best team.

I think Saturday will be another close game, but I have the feeling that England will get a rematch with the saffers and India, the problem comes from if NZ somehow beat SA and then suddenly England will be favourites again, but without Vittori I can't see how NZ can win that game.
