I'm not sure if it's his best one, but it's the one that always sticks in my memory. Does anyone else remember the review he did of the first update to Sensible Soccer? The one where he wrote it in the style of him not actually having enough time to review it because he can't stop playing it.

Sorry that's a bit vague, but I haven't read it since I first got the magazine. Can anyone shed light on which issue it was in? Also, share your own favourite Rev reviews.

International Rugby Challenge and Rise of the Robots were both obviously ace, too.

http://amr.abime.net/issue_21_pages - page 78. That was just before I got my Amiga, so I never read that one.

I can't remember the game, but it was the one he wrote in the style of an episode of Have I Got News for You.

That was the new Impossible Mission (2000 and something). I'm starting to sound like an AP archive now aren't I?

Edit - here you go.

Wow! I can log in for the first time in a week, that was kind of unexpected.
I've played Dangerous Streets, it came with my CD32 and it's shocking. Every bit as bad as everyone says. Kind of like Rise of the Robots but with worse graphics.

I really like his Kick Off '96 review.

Why is it that on that Magazine Rack when I click on a page scan it flashes up and instantly disappears?

I got the CD32 pack that was supposed to have it (WIng Commander and Dangerous Streets on the same cd, and Oscar and Diggers on another?), but there was no Dangerous Streets CD in the box. I didn't bother bother going back and complaining. Perhaps Stu worked in my local Comet and took the cd out of every box to do people a favour.

It's quite funny looking at that disk today with its laughable CD32 promo video. Here we go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkfTDyWCGY8

Kick Off 96 was the important one, it was just irredeemably broken. There really is no point detailing the tiny little flaws in the carpet of your new living room to the landlord when there's a wall missing...

I've just been reading all these reviews. Excellent stuff.

Has anyone got a link to that Socket: Time Dominator review where he gave it 0%?

Tunnel Fighter A1200. Crappy beat-em-up with Stardust-esque tunnel bits, or something. I seem to recall it was a 'Start with 100%, then knock off marks for everything crap about it' review, and amused me muchly. The Kick Off 3 (I think?) review in the last ever issue was good too, off-hand.

I liked the review of the side scrolling helicopter shooty game (I think it was called Apocalypse) which had every rude/violent word substituted in the style of an action film censored for early evening telly.

It was very funny.

Also, the international rugby challenge review that had the box out comparing it to various atrocities (bad taste but very funny).

I vaguely remember a review in which God punishes a newly-deceased sinner by forcing him to play a game. Can't recall the game or even if it was written by Stu, but it was a good 'un.

I played it (It came on a 'The one' coverdisk, and curiosity got the better of me* . It was absolutely dire.

For some reason, that, elfmania and Brutal: Paws of fury are the reviews I liked the most from him. Curiously, all the same genre.

*Damn you Curiosity.

I thought it was J Nash too, but looks like it was Cam - Putty Squad - did this even come out in the end? I seem to remember it got delayed and only came out on the SNES.

Edited because I seemed to think the internet was magic and the words Putty Squad would form a link to the review.

Oo, forgot that one. And James Pond 3, aye. T'was Cam what did that Qwik one. My fave of his, I think. Was Qwik ever released at retail, I wonder? I know the full game was released on some cover CD, not that long after.

Wasn't there a Body Blows one that was basically just "I'm not reviewing Body Blows again, you can forget it"?
I've had a look through that site and it looks like a bit of a running joke as there were a few really short reviews of Body Blows when it came out on budget, but none were written by Stu and none actually say anything like that.

That exact wording refers to Sim City, but there probably was a Body Blows one just like it.

Have amended the title so we can talk about AP writers in general, and not just the Rev (cos we are anyway :P).

It must have been, as the SNES version was released and I'd be surprised if they developed that version before the Amiga one.

The truly baffling thing is how it's just disappeared - there must be SOMEONE out there that has a copy of the master disks.

There's a thread on the EAB about it here: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=11820&highlight=putty+squad

Someone invariably pops up saying they've got it.

Probably the Raiden III one, for me. Not only is he the only reviewer I know of who'll dedicate the larger part of a review to discussing the 'nitty gritty' of a game's mechanics, he also tends to throw in a slightly embittered (but rousing) call to arms at the end of his 2D game reviews. They're always fun to read, as someone who generally feels the same way about the modern industry. :)

Yeah, I'm another one who likes the website reviews. The dissing of games he hated on Commodore machines is all well and good (and it really is; spent a lot of time reading those pieces), but his reviews of Gradius V, R Type Final and Outrun 2 made me actually buy the games. I consider that the highest compliment to give a games review.
