I'm off to see Harry Potter Part Seven Part One tonight, and I'm quite looking forward to it.

Although isn't this the one with all the camping and moving to another campsite whilst they go and look in a load of old memories one?

Could be a bit boring.

Anyone seen it?

No, I haven't, but it's about time there was some raunchy magic sexy time, but I've read the book so I know that's highly unlikely. I thought the books got less interesting towards the end, in fact boring, as you said.

I caught a bit of the last one at Miss Malabar's house the other day. How many films now, and Daniel Radcliffe still can't act?

He really is appalling isn't he. In fact out of the three of them the only one who could was Emma Watson. I don't think he'll ever be able to, though I'm prepared to be proved wrong. Still, with £35m in the bank it's not like he's relying on continued success, is it?

Oh dear. I'm dreading being pulled to the cinema by my girlfriend so see this film. She's already been watching HP6 the other night (that's, IIRC, the murky-visualled one; otherwise they look pretty much the same to me). Bah.

Still, at least it's now acceptable to spend the show ogling Hermione, unlike the earlier films.

But I think I prefer Amy Pond these days

Lady T really likes the Harry Potter films (and she's read the books) so I took her to see it the other week. I quite enjoyed it and thought it was reasonably entertaining, and will go to see the next one - although I struggle to think of any specific aspect that was particularly good about it and don't think it would be worth a second viewing.

A solid 73%.

Maybe my expectations just aren't all that high.

I went to see this film yesterday and thought it excellent. Ron's become a pretty good actor. Hermione's not bad either. Harry Potter's still a bit rubbish though. I'd say it really pushes the story to the limit of the 12a category. It's pretty intense and terrifying. It is a tad overlong, I'm sure they could have trimmed some of the downtime in the woods but it does generally look and feel great.

Azkaban is probably still my favourite but this may be a close second.

Also I really like Helena Bonham Carter and she gets a fair bit of screen time in this.

I've watched a lot of 30's films and good-lord, I've seen bad acting. Radcliffe's isn't actually that bad.

Of course, he's not that great either, but he's certainly not that bad.

Oh, and not seen yet. I'm quietly confident since the movie of Order of the Phoenix turned a rather boring book into a rather splendid film. At least the set design and the wardrobe and supporting cast in these things are always superb.

It really is. It's like they shrunk Alistair Darling and made him breed with Pinocchio in his not-a-real-boy days, then made the horrific offspring take up acting. He's a wooden, eyebrow-slugged piece of crap.

I disagree, but kudos on some top visual imagery there.

I agree with Pete - Radcliffe has come on leaps and bounds since the first couple of films, where not only was he completely wooden, but he did that odd one-eye-blink thing all the time. I didn't think he was all the bad in the last couple of HP films (haven't seen the new one yet though).

Radcliffe may have come on leaps and bounds but he's still crap. Especially compared to Gint.

I thought Order of the Phoenix was a pretty terrible one. It was way too frenetic. Felt somewhat bewildered after watching it. Azkaban is definitely the masterpiece and it's even better because there's no proper villain in it. Just a bad situation to sort out.

After the pretty bland and flat Columbus efforts, Azkaban was like a breath of fresh air. All clever camera angles and slightly creepy little touches. I though Order of The Phoenix was dull, both in book and movie form. My favourite is probably the Goblet of Fire as oddly that was the first one I saw, before I'd even bothered to read the books.

Radcliffe isn't too bad. He's been likable as an adolescent and has kept that now as an awkward teenager. His presence certainly hasn't ruined a perfectly good blockbuster unlike, say, Hayden Christensen (and any film he's ever been in).

People who dislike Hayden Christiensen but like Jessica Alba (I know, that's everyone) should watch Awake.

I've lost track of the Potter films as none of them are great and since Carys has been old enough to go see them with her friends I don't think I've seen the last couple. They're not terrible, they just feel a little too homogenised and committee made to me. I know they've got better as they've gone along, but having read all the books (started about x years ago I think, when the fourth one came out in hardback and read the first ones to make sure they were suitable for C). My theory is that J K Rowling and the HP franchise became so big no-one at the publishing company dared actually step in and tell her to edit the last three books, as they became increasingly lengthy and bloated. I remember watching a Beeb doc on the Rowling and the Potter franchise, and it was fascinating hearing Rowling recount the tale when she wanted to take a break after the fifth book as she'd by then become phenomenally successful but hadn't had a break from writing pretty much constantly for many many years. She says she called both her UK and American publishing companies saying that she wanted to return the advances, the intimation being that the success hadn't gone to her head at all, but thought that if she wanted to take the time out of their schedule she should return their money. The panic at the other end of the phone was palpable until the publishers realised she only wanted to take a year off. I think at one point she was solely responsible for something like 90% of both her publishing companies annual turnover!

I speed read 3/4s of the last one as it could easily lose half of it's length without the story suffering. The first three I actually enjoyed quite a lot, with the third one, Prisoner of Azkaban being the best of the series by some measure IIRC.

Still, I'm sure I'll get round to watching the remaining films at some stage just because of completionist OCD.

Bloomsbury, aye. For a few years they were pretty much just Harry Potter Publishing Inc.

Unsurprisingly, Ms Rowling is going to write a new Harry Potter book - only it won't be about Happy Potter.

Yeah, but it's not a book, it's a (very) short story and free, so there is that.

I bet she has been offered bags of money to do more books. The films were guaranteed money in the bank for WB for 7 years.

I'm surprised there haven't been prequels or more books focusing on one character.

That said she has loads of money already.
