BOOYAH!

We* are with wine and discussing how all you dudes need to come and see that Glasgow actually isn't as rough as what you might think. The result of this deep**, profound** and intellectual** conversation is that we want YOU to come to Glasgow in August for drinks and a wee bit of that magic Glesga banter.

We have decided on a pub already and we even know that we can book a bar within the chosen pub, never mind a table***.
We are also speculating that if this were to happen on a Saturday evening, we could host guests on the Friday down in the 'shire. Between us we have two homes which equals lots of sleep space and only a 45 minute train journey to Glasgow. On the Saturday night we propose a hotel booking**** or the Euro Hostel for much cheapness. THIS IS OPTIMUM TIME FOR GLASGOW, IT MIGHT NOT RAIN!!!!
Thoughts? Questions? Complaints? Knock Backs? :'(

There are only four and a bit months until August, LET'S DO THIS!*****

Hang on. You mean August 2011 right?

You are aware we don't arrange meets for the same year, yes?

I have no idea what I'll be doing then but I'll go down as a possible yes for now.

Some of them sound like me!
In Ayrshire the accent is a bit Wullie'ish but in Glasgow the accent is Gilly'ish. Which is weird, since I'm from Ayrshire.

Depends on the date. We are already in Scotland for two weddings this year (May and November), so something slap bang in the middle probably not.

Ooh, very interested. I'll have a chat with Mrs Z and see if I'm allowed those dates are free.

I've just realised August is Edinbugger Festival month. Flights, trains & hotels might be a problem depending on how long we/you put off booking :S

I've also realised Gill's no mentioned transport.
You can get the train to Glesga or Edina depending on which is easier/cheapest. Fares between the two cities are around £7. London types might want to get the sleeper (take earplugs & a blanket if you can't book a bunk).
You can fly to Glesga, Prestwick or Edinburgh. Edinburgh's probably the worst choice as it's a faff to get to & from. Prestwick's down in the 'shire, if you're staying with us on the Friday one of us should be able to offer a lift & if you're heading straight to the city railfare is either free or subsidised with your boarding card stub or ticket.
Parking's easy. The city centre's all paid carparks. IIRC the hotel has it's own spaces & the Eurohostel has none, but if you head South of the river you can abuse the residents parking or there's a few free streets. Park & ride is another good option.
Finally, if you're a mental you can get a bus up to Buchanan Street bus station, but you'll have cramped legs & it takes twice as long as anything else.

:this:

At one point last year there was a voucher scheme thing and we went up for a week - bus from Southampton to London (fine) , bus from London to Buchanan Street overnight (overnight trip of hell) - and the reverse around a week later - it only cost about a tenner for 2 of us but i would rather drive myself / train it or fly than do that bus journey again)

Wullie/Gill, do you ever have occasion to visit the St Enoch centre, and will you be doing so between now and August?

It's not somewhere I go that often, but it's not exactly out the way either so visiting isn't a problem (though getting back out might be >:(). What do you want/need?

I want to check if the electric vehicle charging points on the second floor of the car park are still there.

Don't worry if you weren't going anyway, I can go and scout it some time.

The second and third options datewise are preferable because I can steal a car for those.

I'd actually be properly up for this. I've never been to Scotchland, so this would be the perfect excuse to go. I'll have a chat with the missus when I get in to see if she'd like to come too.

Zio, if you bring your missus, I will ask her to her face if she's the mental one or the baby owning one.

If someone picks a weekend, I'm booking holiday soon, so I'll book the Friday and Monday around the weekend, to make for less stress.

Aye, I looked into accommodation for the Saturday a while back & forgot to post. The Eurohostel does doubles, singles & dorms & are pretty reasonable pricewise (£40 single, £50 double, £10-20 dorm). They're also slap bang in the city centre so I reckon they're the best option.

They do group discounts too, so if enough of us aren't bothered about sharing a private dorm with Zardoz & his port antics* we can sort out that.

Anyhoo, I'll have a wee discussion with Gill & get back to yies with a date later on today (since none of you lot have a preferred date).
*Surprisingly not a euphimism :DD

Cool, basically what russell said, I think I get some paid holiday for this work over the summer, so should be able to book some time off. I'd probably try and make more than one night out of it as it's not that often I get to go up to bonnie scotchland. (my birthday is on the 5th and I have no plans as of yet, drinks in scotchland?)

I still fancy popping along, the dates later in the month would be mildly preferable cos I'll be able to nick a car to come up for it and save myself faffing with trains, but generally am ok for whenever :)

Do we get to meet the doggy?

I've looked at transport from gatwick up to scotchland and it's 75quid for the plane and about 80odd for the 11hour train journey.

Im up for a little long weekend me thinks. Could be able to do it as I apparently have to take my time off before I leave to get it or something

Yeah... but it won't be paid then!
I think I get 2 or 3 weeks paid holiday which if I don't take I don't think I can get paid for afterwards... if that makes any sense.

That weekend is Mr Andrew's birthday beach party, but it's up to Jen & our foreign mates whether joining them's a good idea. (PM Me for non-crap spy code ;) )

I believe we're all yours on the Friday evening, and want to head over to the wedding party at some point on Saturday afternoon/evening. Can't remember the date. Last weekend in May.
