I've got about 80 something at the moment because I go through and cull anyone that hasn't been online in months, or that I haven't played with for ages (unless they're a leaderboard chum instead).

I don't think I'll ever have an issue with having too many friends :'(

Mostly because I'm quite prompt at deleting people I never play with, or who were random booster buddies for games I no longer wish to boost. I think I've only got about 40 listed atm.

It's bad news that the Xbox live bulk friend importer has currently got 111 names on it!

There is a lot of deadwood on there, to be fair.

Probably a good idea to have a sort out in the new year. If you can with it being an automatic list.

I tend to go by Leaderboards.

I've knocked a few of the old ugvm crew off in preference to people from here but kept a couple of them that are above me on some leaderboards - I feel that removing them would just be cheating myself, the school and my family.

That Norn Irn guy who's good at Forza 3 for example.

Hardcoded limit in Xbox1's Live implementation, which is implicitly coded against in Halo 2. Frankly, it doesn't sound impossible to solve, to me.

No; there should be an optional original-Live friendslist which pops up when you stick an Xbox game in a 360 while having more than 100 friends - "Would you like to set up an original Xbox list, take the first 100, or just those friends that have this game in their profile?"

Or just fix Halo2 on the 360, since they have to recompile anyway, right? Still, the above feature would work for all Xbox games, not just Halo2. It would also be Microsoft spending money on a little-used feature that does little but admit Original Live, and the libraries used in games, was a bit shit.

That would be a workaround. Why can't they just patch the game?

What happens when you put your original xbox game in an original xbox though, that's the problem.

Tut, edited.

They'd have to patch every supported backwards-compatible game, and only as Craster says for the 360. Which might not be possible, and almost certainly cost more than implementing my workaround.

With my workaround, one of:
1) You don't have a 360, not a problem
2) You have a 360 but haven't chosen an option, so just get the first 100.
3) You have a 360 and choose an option, and get that automatically applied at the server end.

Not really. I have a 360 with 150 friends. I buy an xbox 1 and Halo 2, and put it in. What happens? You can't patch the game or the xBox.

Kick yourself in the knackers

Alternatively: Have the servers only send 100 friends rather than the full friends list.

Oh, do they? Oh, well just do that then. Patch the original with a way to present a 'sham' friends list to old games.

I saw him online! It might have been a fever dream though, because by the time I'd got the game into the drive, he was gone.

According to Twitter reports he has a problem with weeping genital warts and a distended anus. I can see why he's got achey ickle legs now.

I probably need to go through mine and have a tidy up as it's currently on 90+ and I think a fair chunk of those are from WoS. I think there's still one or two I've not added from here yet too. Although it's mainly for leaderboard purposes than for multiplayer.

At some point, it must. Given my friends list/message list remains synced between the 360, 2 pcs and the website.

Of course, they're more likely to just remove support for old games rather than doing such things, what with the bug potential on the service.

It'd also be nice if I could add tags to friends on my list, then sort by those. But that's a thread derail so I won't mention it.

Anyone needing a spare slot for multiplayer fun and games, feel free give me (MrC863) the boot as I only have a silver membership and have not yet tried out any multiplayer stuff (could be tempted by some online racing, but I’m way to shy to strap on a headset and do the business with total strangers).
Having said that, the XBLA leaderboards have given me much joy – I wanted to say merry Christmas to my XBLA chums, but apparently messaging is only for gold members, so I’ll say it here instead. Merry Christmas to my XBLA chums. Special mentions to DBSnappa, who is still slightly better than me at GW2, Malc74 for the pinball (will get round to thrashing you at Hall of Fame once it gets a European release), and Trousers and Consolemad for being annoyingly good at everything.

Thanks, and a very merry Christmas to all of you.

If you don it from the xbox, messaging is free for all members, silver or gold. If you do it from the website, you need gold membership.

Daft, I know.
