Hello!

http://www.trance.fm is the best internet radio station ever, and I want to record it so I can listen to it in the car. (Trance is the best music ever, so it follows that a site that does trance 24/7 is the best internet radio station ever.)

It streams in a variety of ways as you can see on the site, you can have it streaming within a browser, or via Winamp or Windows Media Player.

I don't really mind how I go about doing it, I just want to record pure trance goodness for hours at a time (ideally as an MP3 to start with, but a massive WAV to be converted afterwards would be fine also).

All I need to end up with is MP3s, 'cause I've got a head unit in my car that I can just plug a USB stick into the front of, so I'm literally after gigs and gigs of trancey heaven.

I've got an Auzentech X-Fi Prelude sound card in my PC (effectively a Creative X-Fi with better components), which has a 'What U Hear' setting on the recording settings in Windows.

Doubtless I could work the rest of it out myself the hard way, but I'm sure a fellow BEEX-er can recommend the optimal way to go about doing this.

Thank you!

one of the default output plugins in winamp allows you to encode what you're streaming. That should do the trick.

Thanks for that Malc, it is indeed already there in the list of 'output' plug-ins, although I'll be buggered if I can actually get it to start up or actually do anything.....

EDIT - OK scratch that just closed and reopened Winamp with the plug-in selected, at which point Winamp told me that it couldn't disk write Shoutcast streams, back to the drawing board then......

I asked the same question at another set of forums and received this excellent response - application recommended!

'All Sound Recorder XP'

(I must confess the guy supplied it with a crack, so I won't post it here, I will however hand over the registration fee to the author as it's exactly what I was after.)

Doesn't look much special but it gets the job done with amazingly little effort, and will record from any source that appears in the Windows recording settings.

I listen to very little else, I mean, I love loads of different kinds of music and bands and artists, but I have trance on in the car about 95% of the time, and maybe 80% of the time at home. (I'm currently hammering the arse out of Tiger Woods (fnaar) '09 on the 360, I have all the game sounds turned off and just have my PC doing trance.fm instead.)

I suppose in a way it's 'cause it links back to (ahem) a 'certain phase' of my life when it was all about pills and tunes and all that entails, but whilst the drugs are long in the past now, my love of the music has never abated.

I have Synaesthesia as the ringtone on my mobile, quite often I deliberately don't answer it for 20 seconds or so just to listen to that gorgeous chord progression :D
