Hmm, I'll give it a go but it's Burnie P night so I'll have to 'tape' it.

Its a British fantasy/comedy. think Maid Marian and Her Merry Men for adults.
It's got Matt lucas from Little Britain in it.

Saw the trailer. When there is a sight gag of Matt Lucas wearing a merkin, then I don't hold out much hope. Actually, come to think of it, I needn't mention the merkin bit.

The trouble is, for some unquantifible reason, Matt Lucas scares me. As if I'd wake up and he'd be chewing on my arm, gibbering, or something.

I've watched about half of this already. It's not bad but could be better. Quite funny if you play D&D definitely. Goes for just a few too many cheap laughs, but overall quite entertaining.

It's completely thrown me to find out the lead of this (and of Meet the Spartans) was the little fellow who played the Irish wannabe footballer in Eastenders. I barely recognised the bugger. One assumes he's playing the character as an american so the BBC can sell it to the States more easily.

Well that was a rather pleasent suprise as it wasn't a complete turd but rather mildly amusing, I counted three whole lols during the proceedings. Michael Gambon's narration obviously being the star of the show.

Mitchell and Webb on the other hand was fantastic, really glad to see them back. The extra stuff on the red button was also excellent, I really like the idea of animating the radio series sketches.

Good grief that was rubbish. Lame.

When you think about the amount of money something like that cost and that it failed to hit any of the marks like that charmless troll servant with his crossbow. It needs a better script, better direction, more charismatic stars and, well, tightening up in all departments, really. You can get away with a mediocre script and story with charismatic actors. You can get away with poor direction with a decent script. It just felt like it was made by a lot of enthusiastic amateurs who don't really have any chops for comedy and I hate seeing money being wasted on mediocre stuff like this. I shudder to think at the fun they had making it - you can sense them laughing at how funny they think it is - but it has all the quality of provincial am-dram production. The only redeemable cast member, IMO, was Matt Lucas's straight man lieutenant, whatever he was called. Had all the hallmarks of a cookie cutter comedy programme where the fuckwits who commissioned it had a checklist of nerd boxes to tick.

I'd like to see if it improves but I sadly suspect it won't.

I don't think i'll be watching again, it got a bit better but otherwise pretty poor.
Mitchell and Webb were brilliant as always though. The Apprentise and Detective sketch (i believe they called him "Voirot") was very clever, as was the action figure sketch. Top Stuff.

India de Beaufort? Didn't she play the daughter of the Indian landlord in Run Fatboy Run?

I think you're being overly harsh, DB. I'm not going to say it was great - it had Matt Lucas in it for a start - but it wasn't completely sucky (that '300 men' bit was). I chuckled quite a bit. I don't think it's something we're every likely to agree on though, with your only liking Matt Lucas.

Mitchell and Webb was better.

India is very very pretty. That's good enough reason to watch. I think the gay character can be a little obvious sometimes but it just reminds me of playing D&D. Which is quite amusing.

Is this suitable for my kids to watch (2 and 5 years old), based on the mirkin joke being fine?

Sorry, I was expecting more and I can be highly dismissive of rubbish like this. Also, I said the guy playing Lucas's chief adviser or whatever his role was, the one who looked too similar to David Walliams to be a coincidence, was the only good thing in it. Not Lucas - he was, well, Matt Lucas, who is a bit of a one trick pony.

This could've been much better. Lucas weren't bad in this as the crazy despot type character, and India De Beaufort is well fit. Apart from that it didn't really make me laugh, 'cept for a couple of sight gags and the viking funeral bit, that was ace. It was just too middling for my liking.

Was it the first episode which had the dyslexic joke in it? I thought that was brilliant.

He was brilliant in The Hide, it was on over Christmas I think and is well worth tracking down.
