To go with your WiiFit board and pulse sensor, why not pick up one of the Pokemon reissues on the Ds?

Forthcoming DS remakes of Pokemon Gold and Silver are to come with a "PokeWalker" peripheral, a pedometer that levels up your Pokemon as you stroll about.

Andriasang has the details and images straight from the Pokemon Company in Japan. The PokeWalker is a cross between a Tamagotchi and the pedometers that ship with DS health software like Walk With Me!

Shaped like a flat Pokeball with a screen, the PokeWalker allows you to transfer one Pokemon at a time to it via infrared, which will then gain experience and affection for you with every step you take.

Next up: Kirby Paintbrush Adventures with rowing machine!

Fuck's sake.

WRONG!

Back in the era of the Gameboy Color the Pokémon Gold/Silver GBC games did indeed link up with a Pokémon Pédometer. This reissue mearly continues that and îndeed bundles it for free rather than selling it separately.

My GF of the time had one and it was acebest. A Tamagochî with Pédométér functions, your steps buying food and treats and stuff.

Tamagochi's were awesome - FACT.
This was too.

So this new version is A Good Thing Too.

QED.

I imagine that part of Nintendo's reasoning on this is to encourage people to go out and buy the game rather than pirate it.

Aye, an anti piracy measure to be sure.

The thing about Pedometers is they go mental on buses so you'll have l33t Pøkéµøñ in no time.

I bought my wife one of the new Music Star Tamagotchis for her birthday last month.

Also, I will now definitely be buying one copy of Pokemon Gold and one copy of Pokemon Silver.

And the best type. You beat piracy by making the paid for product better than the pirated one.

Actually, I am going to add my name to the list of voices that think this isn't bad.

There are a couple of DS pedometer 'apps' (let's call them that as they are not games, are they?) on the market already, but this one actually is a game, and you are rewarded for actually getting off of your lazy butt and walking places. I don't know how 'in' to Pokemon kids are, but if they were waking places to level up their Pokemon - hey, that's great.

Actually, I don't mind this idea at all - it's silly, sure, but at least the pedometer achieves something in the game and isn't JUST a pedometer, as in the cases of the other pedometer titles.

Also, with Nintendo's (over?) precautious stance on online interactions and friend codes for DS, etc, I hope that at least one person buys it for their kid thinking that it comes with a paedo-meter. At the end of a day's walking about they are going to think the place is crawling with them. 'Oh my God, little Annie has registered 6,543 kiddie-fiddlers whilst at Thorpe Park - barricade them in!'

Quite simply one of the most inspired paragraphs I have ever read on Beex. I think I love you. POTW isn't good enough.
