Trailer there - looks like there's some sort of zombie outbreak in the Crackdown universe. Looks like we'll have to jump about and kick the shit out of them. Looks like fun!

I think if they've taken the original engine, beefed it up a bit and added other new bits, they can't really go far wrong. I mean, I reckon I could have a stab at a sequel if I half knew what I was doing. The first was that good.

When the rumours were flying about before E3 about a possible crackdown 2 there was alot of whispers of it being more multiplayer focused.

So this Ruffian Games are a new outfit that split from Realtime Worlds? That bodes well.

Zombies, eh. How novel and utterly unlike every other game and film and tv programme of the day.

I never saw the point of Crackdown until I was struggling to take out some boss guy in a lighthouse. I tried several attempts at a stealth approach, but invariably ran into a hoard of thugs and got murdered. Then it occured to me that I'd spent the game up until that point building jumpy, kicky, shooty, drivey skills for a reason. Bound.... Bound.... Bound.... I'm at the top of the lighthouse next to the boss.... boot! Boss dead. Yay!

Then I fell in love with it. No, stealth, no strategy, no bullshit - just get in there and mix it up!

Looking forwards to the sequel, and Dreamcast loving may have to go on a break of a couple of days while I replay the first Crackdown.

It's just unashamedly arcadey fun. Let's take all the fun stuff from the first 2 GTAs and put them in a world comparable to GTA3 onwards. Fucking love that game.

Crackdown was great. I wish I still had it. The best way to play it, I found, was not to kill the bosses, but instead to simply have a never-ending, free-roaming gunfight across each island, perhaps killing your way to each general, then punching them in the face and running away, leaving them alive so you can come back the next day and do it again.

Also, limpet mines. Attach a bunch to your car, drive said car at 140 mph towards a stronghold, then dive out and detonate. Fuck, yes.

Actually, it's the same fun I'm having with Just Cause and also Saints Row 2. I call it "the joy of the daft". Have a nice thing like a city or an archipelago or something, and then just do daft and mental things in it.

I'm playing Just Cause and coming back here on my alt-input to argue with WRONGWOOD about zombies, I haven't got time to read, as my eyes are bursting with zombrage.

Speaking of achievements, I've stopped caring so much about them and I'm enjoying games again. Sure, I still try to get them, but I'm not wading through a shit game on EXTREME difficulty for 100G ever again.

I don't go out of my way with shit games to do that neither. Except for Two Worlds recently.

I felt like the achvs just artificially extended an otherwise very short game. also, 800 orbs is too much!

I still occasionally boot up Crackdown to just run around like a madman. And fire rockets into people. It's so ridiculously fun.

Improve the car malarky next time, please!

I'm concerned that this is being done by some fly-by-nights who've splintered off from RTW, but I remain ever hopeful.

I had a look at their site and they have developers from Fable 2 and PGR4 as well as Crackdown, so I'm hopeful because all of those titles were well put together, even if PGR4 was a rubbish NEITHER ARCADE NOR SIMULATION racer that I'm not bitter about at all.

I would not give a damn if they completely removed car driving from the game. Travelling was quickest by rooftop. Travelling was funnest by rooftop. I generally only used it to get out of the agency complex. (Infamous didn't allow you to use cars, and probably benefitted hugely from the choice)

I barely bothered with the cars, either. Rooftop jumpy-jumpy was way more fun, better looking. Probably more effective too. The only reason I was tempted to drive was to upgrade my driving stat high enough to use the agency vehicle 'powers' and see if I could get a car near the top of the agency tower, but I didn't bother.

I totally maxed out all my powers other than driving, which is at only 2 or 3 stars. I was tempted to try to get it higher via grinding to get an achievement, but couldn't be bothered.

It's all about the jumpy jumpy with fraging on the way then stompy stompy all over the bosses.

Brilliant fun, cant wait for more.

Cars = missed orbs!

I never got around to playing Crackdown, and always felt I'd greatly missed out. It's only a tenner, so I might pick it up.

I didn't particularly enjoy the demo too much, but I felt dumped into a world with little idea of what was going on, what to do, or what I could do.

If anyone picks it up on the cheap now, I'm more than happy to bound around the city with them in co-op.

Nothing should keep you from being out in the sun.

Please let Crackdown 2 have 4-8 player co-op.

I've ordered it, so should have it within a few days.

£10 falls into my "If you don't like it, it was cheap enough to stamp on for giggles" category.

It takes a while to get going, but when you've upgraded your skills a couple of notches the whole city feels like one huge adventure playground with you able to jump massive buildings, throw cars around and shoot seven shades of shinola out of everything. When you get reasonably upgraded, climbing the Agency tower and jumping off is one of those vertigo moments in games ;-)

It's a GTA-style city, but with all the dull stuff removed, and instead of doing boring missions you just have to go and kill a lot of punks in various interesting surroundings.

But you're no normal cop. You're a supercop, and you can power up your agility, strength, explosives etc.

After a bit of playing you're soon leaping from building to building, and when fully powered making massive leaps whilst firing huge rockets at the bad guys. It's just ludicrously good fun.

Also, the sun will go in the minute you finish Uni.

I know :(

depending on my financial situation and whether I get the EngD I've gone for and therefore will be getting £19,400 tax free a year for the next 4 years, then I'll get it to entertain me over the summer period.
but I would be in birmingham...

The driving was alright, but there was basically no need to bother with it - all the places you could fight were back streets and rooftops, so there was no need for any chases or ramming people off the road or whatev. The cars were good for making an entry to certain places, and for use as mobile bombs, but that was it. Even the agency vehicles were disappointing. The truck was fun - you could basically become a turbo-charged hulkmobile when you got the maximum driving skill, but that was useless because the only place you could use it was the motorways, and all you could odo there was plough civilians into dust. The SUV was great, though - very tough and higly maneouverable. Even the japanese guys had trouble fighting it off if you drove it into some of their buildings.

They could take the cars out and not ruin the game, but I think it would suffer for it. The best thing they could do of course is actually make the driving relevant.
