I'm genuinely sad at this (so much so that I almost didn't go for the 'witty' header).

I was exactly the same over at RLLMUK. Where I did the exact same thing. With, um, almost the exact same header. He was an institution; a bit like the Queen except not rubbish.

This is deeply sad news. He had a pretty good innings, but still, we've lost a lot today. Such a relaxing voice too, always went well with washing up or lying in bed. I'm going to play some Humphrey Lyttleton in the music library tomorrow. :(

Shit! I knew he was in for an operation but I assumed it would be business as usual soon. Sadly I guess at his age you can't take these things for granted.

:( I saw him on telly recently and he didn't look well at all so it's no surprise but it's still a great loss.

To be honest he was a little wobbly when I saw ISIHAC a year or two ago, there was a lot more repeating of stuff than you'd realise from hearing the radio shows.

Still, he was doing pretty well for what was his 85th birthday.

Not a massive surprise, but still deeply upsetting. I was lucky enough to see a recording of ISIHAC last year, and am very pleased that I did. RIP Humph.

Best line so far comes from SA... "There is a silver lining to this, I hear Samantha likes a stiff"
