And we now have the iPad Pro back, it has been fixed. According to the Currys repair sheet it needed to have an audio cable reseated.

As you can see it took the best part of a month from taking it back to Currys, to us having it back working.

Mrs Hearthly is happy though, which is the main thing.

iPadOS is interesting. It’s quite a shock to the system to have smaller icons but long overdue.
Looking forward to finding what’s new.

I'm installing iPad os on my work iPad this morning.

Hoping that GoodNotes works, that's my most used app.

Everything seemed just fine, almost boringly so - except for my Reminders which are apparently now sequestered away until my macbook gets upgraded to Catalina.

iPad OS doesn't actually seem like that big a jump to me, at least not at first glance (small icons aside).

I like the new display for the volume control (on the phone more than the iPad, because I like the orientation/placement on the phone better).

I am looking at a non Apple Pencil as the cost seems hefty.

Any recommendations for a budget stylus?

Had a quick google, do we know when the next iteration of the iPhone is due, my contract is up on Saturday, and I fancy the iPhone 11. I am guessing the prices drop when the next model is out.

No, i get that. My son wants my iPhone 8, he is on my old iPhone 6.

The 11 will do what I need, I just want to get it as cheap as possible :)

Yes, oddly I understood it is a one month delay. But October is 2 months away, and I have a nagging child. The October I can deal with, the child not so much... :P

Good news. According to a leak today it’s only the lower spec iPhones that are delayed to October.

The pro spec models are delayed to November.

Just gone sim only, while I decide what to do. It did seem daft to pay for a more expensive plan, while I am out of contract.

My data has been raised from 30 gig to 100 gig, for the sum of £20.

How can you use 100 gig a month......

Is it really sad, but I do like the apps library update.

I have managed to clear screens of apps.

I do like it, but I wish they'd given us the option to have just a list of apps rather than having them all grouped into big folders.

Aye, knew about that - it's a nitpick, certainly, but doing this means that half the screen is taken up by the keyboard because it goes into search mode.

It might have changed with the 14.01 update

Has anyone got one of the new ones yet? I can't decide which model I want. I'm not actually sure what I've got right now, I think it's the iPhone X.

I'm tempted by the Mini because it's smaller and lighter. I've got a bad back and sometimes my fingers are tingly, or number, or are sore at the joints so I thought a smaller lighter phone might help a bit.

I don't know if I'd feel like I was missing out on a better camera or a bigger screen though for browsing text heavy sites like Reddit, Patreon, here, or watching videos on YouTube and Twitch.

What did you go for and how do you feel about it now?

I have the 12 Pro and the screen is nicer and the camera is a lot better than the XR I had previously. Regarding going from the X to the 12 mini, I would be disappointed with a smaller screen and this thing is pretty light as it is.

Tbf there’s not a great deal between the 12 and the 12 Pro so if you don’t desperately want a stainless steel phone with telephoto lens and LIDAR sensor then that would be the most sensible one.

I want a 12 just because it's new and shiny and I won't replace it for a couple of years. I want to order it this week because it takes a few weeks to arrive and it would be nice to have it for Christmas. I just can't decide which one. :S

How heavy does the 12 Pro feel compared to the one you had? What does the LIDAR sensor do?

Very similar feel. Looking at Apple’s site the 12 and 12 Pro are both lighter than the XR. The 12 significantly so (not surprising as it’s aluminium compared to the Pro’s steel).

The LiDAR scanner improves low light photography and AR.

The 12 Pro is heavier than the X which is heavier than the 12, but they’re all within 25g of each other. Not a lot of difference.

Argh, it's so tough! I'm probably going to end up getting the Pro because although I probably won't need the low light and the telephoto lens, how inconvenienced will I feel on the occasions I do need it and don't have it...
