I toyed with watching it, then realised that I'd spend the entire time thinking of how much I want to punch Stewart Lee in the face instead of laughing. He does have an incredibly punchable face, doesn't he? (I could just close my eyes, but fantasizing about punching Stewart Lee is still more fun than sitting in complete, stony silence.)

Of course, this wasn't helped by reading that article about his 'Del-boy falling through the bar' bit. How dare he take shots at one of the finest pieces of physical comedy seen on British television? Fucking smug-faced cunt. I mean, its no longer as funny as it once was, but if you take any piece of comedy and rip its screaming form from the womb of context and force it to repeat itself twelve million times... Well, little can survive that. See also most of Python's famous stuff.

Oooh liked that a lot.

Great seeing munnery, eldon and curious orange guy in tow. That makes me happy. Interesting to see how they edited it. He made lots of references to it being filmed which they've elegantly snipped out.

As I said at the time, the books one was the weakest of the three I saw, so it's all looking good!

I was at the filming of the Del-boy bit, and I've always found the scene hilarious. But the bit Lee does about it is amazing. And the target of his assault is the publc not the scene. But no point arguing about the scene till it's been on.

Good stuff. Not perfect, by any means, but it's just nice (if not surprisingly so) to see a comedy show on BBC Two at 10pm that (a) largely features one man on a stage saying funny things, and (b) that isn't pandering to as large an audience as possible. Also, Jerry Sadowitz appears in a later episode, I believe.

Also this: It would have been improved if Rodafowa had wore the cowboy hat from his Gamerpic.

Half the time I was wondering how the hell it got past the people whose job it is to add "shouting" and "zany" and "wacky" and "bad taste moments" into comedy. Must gave been there day off, and next weeks will have the usual quota of "ironic racism. Or is it? OR IS IT?"

I've just watched it and I don't think it was all that good. I've never been a fan of Stewart Lee (or TMWRNJ). It made me slightly chuckle occasionally though. Nice idea though as Mark X says. I think a fair few of the jokes were a bit easy and under developed. The reaction to Chris Moyles writing a book really went on too long. Still, I'll try again next week.

I disagree. I enjoy things more if they go on and on beyond their natural ending point. The first time I realised this was watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail, when Sir Lancelot continually runs up the road to assault the castle in the swamp. It goes on for just one tick more than you expect it, thus it wins.

I think that's the marmite nature of Mr Lee. His slow rumbling inevitable humour is divisive but, if you like it, it's divine. The way when he is attacking something or someone and you know his punch line and he knows you know, but yet here it comes... every so slowly... to ridicule whatever it is... is just perfect. It's the most perfect humiliation for whatever is in his sights.

He's very much a craftsman, no improve, no deviation, just something perfectly crafted.

I thought the red button bit was a lot better than the actual show. He seemed to be enjoying himself considerably with Iannucci as a foil.

There was an advert for "Horden Corden" which preceded it which was about 1% as funny as anything that followed.

Did I realised by the third time you did it that you were going for an over-running joke? Yes. Did then continuing on to the eighth time add any funny to that? Not really, no. Especially at the expense of the extra funny you could have squeezed into that time.

I've often heard that a joke every 30 seconds is a good thing for a stand up comedian to aim for. Otherwise, it's just like an after dinner speech.
