I have a tape! I want to make it into an MP3.
Anyone have one of those converter oojimaflips, and could convert my tape if I sent it too them, along with a bag of sweeties or something?

If you have a tape player and a mini jack patch cable, you could do it yerself

Tapedeck from your hi-fi, and a dual phono to stereo minijack cable to your soundcard will do it

Tapedeck?

Hi-fi?

I'm surrounded by computers, I'm afraid.

A second hand Sony Walkman and a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack lead is probably the cheapest solution then.

A tidy mid-range late 90's Sony Walkman is between 5 and 10 quid on fleabay delivered. Loads about and the playback on a proper Sony unit will be fine. Obviously you'll be using the headphone out socket but with the volume on low the aux input on your soundcard will be fine.

It's also small enough to stick in a drawer for the next time you need it and isn't a while elephant like those USB devices. Given the quality of Sony's better Walkmans the playback will be superior as well.

NB I haven't tried this but it should work. I do have a very nice Sony hi-fi separate but the computer it was plugged into blew up last year and the amp wasn't far behind it.

I may be able to lay my hands on an old walkman and could possibly do it for you.

Leave it with me, its at my mom and dads house.

What chinny said but clean the tape head first. Also, soundcard in, not dubious cheap USB ADC.

That's all very well if you have a soundcard-in. I don't. I've found the sound quality from a Technics player through the cheap USB ADC to be more than adequate for my ancient ears. It also helps if the tape itself isn't ancient and wrinkly.

What are you using exactly, a VIC 20?

Quite often you'll find a mic input will double as an aux input and will auto sense the level. My Macbook does this. In fact I think the Mac Pro tower does as well.

A Toshiba laptop. I've tried patching through the Mic-in and it's a bugger to get it to record loud enough without ending up with a mushy sound.
