Bungie and Activision for 10 years. That's it, Halo games every year for the next 10 years, decreasing in quality each time. Expensive DLC and general shittiness all round.

Edit: I realise they're talking about working on a new game, but I like being dramatic.

Required quality for purchase has gone up somewhat significantly then.

Giving Activision money makes me feel dirty.

Yep. They already have an awful reputation as the "new EA", which really doesn't sit with Bungie's squeaky clean, "we're really good to our customers" image. I think a lot of people are going to be annoyed about this.

Not quite as bad as I first thought.

Halo's IP is owned by Microsoft so we won't be seeing Activision's milk-oh-tron latch onto that teat. However I'd say it's quite likely well see a Bungie CoD, as IW are dead in the water now.

From a marketing point of view, a Bungie developed CoD doesn't make any sense. Other than us nerds, nobody else gives a shit if IW make the game or Treyarch or who cares who else? It'll sell well regardless, so I can't see Activision "wasting" the FROM THE CREATORS OF HALO strapline on another CoD game. Regardless of whether or not Bungie would make a fantastic CoD.

Bungie won't make a CoD game. They're making a new franchise in partnership with Activision, much like Respawn and EA are doing.

Well, I now understand why Activision didn't care that IW were leaving.

That said, I don;t think Bungie are that safe a bet any more. A good case could be made that they are a one trick pony who've been making the same game forever. And I don't think that the Marathon: Reach is going to be anything different.

That said a new IP could totally revitalise them.

But activision? What were they thinking?

It's a terrible state of affairs that moving from Microsoft as a publisher to Activision increases the chances of Bungie making PC games.

Why are people still buying activision games first hand after all the shit treatment of people under their employment, the lack of respect of people they represent in their games and the amount of shit unique controller added shit games they make. I'm not buying one until they stop being dicks.

You forgot ridiculously overpriced DLC *cough Jamfare 2 cough* which apparently wasn't expensive enough, and the consumers should've paid more.

Rather tellingly, the only Activision game I currently own is CoD4 - a game I'd only buy secomd hand. Not because I've made any effort to avoid them, but because they pump out such dreary shite.

However, due to the extraordinary open levels of contempt they show both their customers and staff, I wouldn't feel morally right supporting them by giving them any money. It doesn't really have any effect on them (not least of which because enough people are willing to suck on the overpriced teat that they offer), but it's about being able to live with myself.

Kind of sad, considering how much fun Bungies output has been for the past few years.

Edit: Medieval: Total War was also Activision, so that's 1 game I bought new from them in the last decade.

PC gamers don't deserve Bungie games.

Last Acti game I really loved was Prototype, and shortly after it's release (to pretty great reviews) they shut down the developer.

Because obviously is a developer makes a great game and it doesn't sell well enough for the publishers expectations, the solution is to sack everyone.

I really liked Radical Entertainment too. :(

But Prototype was shit. It had a great start and great potential, but they somehow managed to turn the whole thing hatefully dull and frustrating.

To be fair, the "wasn't expensive enough" comment was an analyst, not someone working at Activision. And he had a point -- despite the criticism of the high price point, a fuckton of people bought it; so was it high, then, or actually just fairly priced?

As opposed to EA who treat their staff really nicely?
