I need to sell a few guitars and it occurs to me that I have no idea how to go about posting them.

Has anyone done this before and if so, what's the best (least hassle, most cheap) way to go about it?

TA!

all my guitars have rather substantial solid shell cases, which would make posting easier should I ever sell. You can sometimes find them for cheap, which would make posting easy for you. (although perhaps a little more expensive, but include it in P&P)

Might be worth having a nose at http://www.interparcel.com - you can get a quote without signing up too. I use them primarily to send stuff to Ireland, which invariably works out cheapest using DHL. I just book it through Interparcel, pay via paypal and DHL then pick up from my work and deliver. Not the cheapest, but very convenient.

I'm pretty sure he was asking about packaging rather than which parcel service. But yes, DHL is probably the best option, I use them through parcel2go.com.

I second the "get a tatty old case from a charity shop / freecycle" as being the easiest option for packaging.

I figured that too, but he did also ask about 'least hassle/most cheap'.

The problem with using DHL is that they're a bunch of useless cunts (round here anyway).

Yeah, if you're ebay, collection only is useful. If not, you might need to sell it with at least a soft, cushioned bag, or more preferably a hard case.

Go have words with your local guitar shop. They could be able to help you with spare packing materials n'stuff.

thanks for the advices.

it's mostly about the postal method rather than the packing but that's an issue as well so it's all good.

my music room is turning into a guitar graveyard so I deffo need to lash a few and replace with one much nicer one.

Fender Telecoustic. In sound working order but I think it needs a good truss rod adjustment as the intonation is utterly bollocks.

Ibanez Artcore (I think an AS-95T or something but I'll need to check). Drop-dead gorgeous, marine blue semi with a Bigsby tremolo. Only played a few times on account of the fact that it just doesn't fit my style at all. I've got another much uglier and older semi that weighs more than most basses that I enjoy playing a lot more.

Whenever we've bought guitars on ebay it's either been collection or they've sent them just really well packaged and via couriers with handle with care etc... on them and they've all been fine.

I'm also selling a couple of guitars to finance my new bass (and make room). Need to take some decent photos and stick them on eBay, but I'll probably offer them here first.

Grey Washburn 7-string and black Epiphone Les Paul Deluxe w/cream scratchplate.

I would wrap in bubble wrap and then into a box that it fit's into when the bubble wrapped (with added packing chippings where there are any gaps). I would put this in a larger box which would have room all around for more chippings to hold the other box in position.

Works for fragile glass of all shapes and sizes so would have to work with a guitar.

Oh, and when I stick mine on eBay, they're going to be collection-only. Posting guitars is a nightmare.

Are people only going to say what they are selling? Not what sort of price they are looking for?

Good point. I'm looking for about £175 for the Les Paul and £220 for the Washburn.
