Hello!

I have a Toshiba LCD TV, which I very much like.

However, it is annoying me now because it has a dark line down the screen on the right hand side, where the right hand edge of a 4:3 image is when I'm watching stuff in that aspect ratio.

If I go up to the screen and look closely I can see individual pixels, all of which look fine. But as soon as I get far away, that damn line is visible. But only when I'm watching light stuff. Light blue is especially bad and shows it off.

Given that I cannot afford repairs or a new TV am I stuck with the line? It's not something that's really that important, but it's bugging the hell out of me.

Have you tried switching it off and on again?

Sorry.

I was going to type up instructions of things to try, but this guy did it for me and even linked the tools he used for it.

Worth a go.

<edit> The tool is Mac Only so if you don't have a Mac to hook up to the TV, I'm sure you can get something for the PC and connect it with a VGA cable.

Thanks.

Would be worth trying if I had anything I could connect to the TV to run the screensaver.

You could try making a white picture on the PC and putting that on the Xbox 360 and leaving it overnight, possibly.

If you can get a PC to within range of the TV (and it has VGA) you could try http://www.jscreenfix.com/basic.php . It's a PC version.

I had a problem some time ago with my old 36" Toshiba CRT - it wouldn't switch on for some reason. I called the warranty number in the manual, they sent a man around the next day and fixed it free of charge. It's slightly anecdotal, I know, but I was impressed with that level of service, so the worst case scenario is you could call Toshiba and they may fix it for very little if not nothing.

Easy enough to use Windows Movie Maker to just display a 10 second white image and then burn it to DVD.
