Well I bought this here game, I did. I bought it because of The Devil of a Man mentioning that it's nice to just roam in, like Test Drive Unlimited. And, well sir, I'm having lots of fun with it.

Very arcadey open world antics, which remind me of the good bits of Mercenaries 2. Considering how early in the life of the 360 it was released, it looks lusher than a lush bush. There was one point last night, where I was parachuting towards a rain laden cloud backlit by the best night sky I've seen since Monkey Island.

And it's frickin HYOWJ! I've been doddering around the first two islands which must encompass the entire playing area of Mercenaries 2 on their own. The full map on this is at least 4 or 5 times bigger yet. 8) I've heard comments and complaints that, yes, it's a big map, but there's not much to do in it. But that's fine with me. I'm having great fun just roaming around.

More thoughts as they occur, natch.

I have this, I played it a bit, but then got bored of everyone just shooting me on sight and gave up. Also, the side missions are fucking awful. Collect 100,000 teabags from people who keep teabags and will shoot you if you want their teabags, "No sir this be my teabag," "but I need it for 10 achievement points!" "Tough shit amigo, I say bang to you with my gun. BANG BANG, and all my compadres, they say BANG as well. Come on guys BANG we say to you!" "I just wanted a teabag, aaaaagh!"

Glad to see you're enjoying it - it's a damned sight more fun than GTA 4 anyway.

Massive gameworld, looks beautiful, vehicles are great fun, particularly when you can get your mitts on helicopter gunships and Harriers. Mission and story structure as well as the NPC AI needed much more work, but I wasted hours of my time just farting around in the massive gameworld. I have high hopes for the sequel.

Ahem, can I just ask a quick question? Why exactly is it that you think a second game in this particular series would be good? *sits and waits on tenterhooks*

Because in my mind all the first needed was more time in development to fix the plethora of faults it had. The actual gameworld and engine didn't need much and that HAD to be the biggest part of the game to develop, so they could just re-use that and spend the extra development time finessing the control interfaces, the story and mission structure, the vehicle dynamics and the NPC AI.

Didn't think much of it - yes, it looked pretty nice, but the tedious 'roadblock' assaults were dull as sin, it was a bit po-faced, and despite absorbing hundreds of bullets and surviving huge falls being tapped by a passing car kills you.

I got Crackdown instead.

I just ordered this off Goozex having got shot of Saints Row 2 to Malabar Front after I worked my way through the opening slide show and thought - "nah".

I always sort of fancied it but never got round to it - now Dimmers has provided me with the impetus to actually try it.

But will it let you perform a hit on someone, and that someone is standing atop the screen at an old drive-in, and when he pulled a gun on me I quickly kicked him in the nuts, and he toppled over in pain... off the edge of the screen, fell 40 feet, and died. Hurrah!

I got it for 6 quid off PlayTrade. Got my money out of it already, and there's still a huge island archipelago to explore! Love the water effects.

Give it a go, but make sure you wait until dark at least once. Get up somewhere high.

Also bear in mind it's very arcadey and non-realistic.

What was he doing up there?

What's unrealistic about parachuting into a car by pressing a button? ;)

Drinking, it's his hangout, it seems. I had to drink two 40s myself to get him to even 'appear'. I couldn't believe that it actually worked, especially given my last attempt: I seized my target and used him as a human shield... but because the cops shot him to death, it didn't 'count'.

Spent an exhilarating 2 minutes basejumping from the eagle's nest safe house last night. My goodness it was amazing.

Well that's that maxed. Very repetitive, but a good grind none the less. There were times when I rage quite shouting "FUCKING GAME!" at it.

I finally had a go on this properly (thanks for the welcome message Dimmers) and it's really a whole shitload of fun.

I sprung some bloke from prison by face shooting anyone that was in my way. Then the fuzz were onto me so I raced up one of the towers and shot up their cars from a fixed machine gun leaving one that I could drive off in. I did that but some new ones gave chase so I got on top and parachuted off onto a small island in the archipelago then swum to another island. As I got there the police were there as well only in their haste to get to me one just drove off a small hill directly into the ocean. I laughed loads as I ran off.

Worth the measly amount of Goozex points it cost already.

I've heard the sequel will be set on a millimetre-accurate map based on one of the largest Greek islands, but nothing else. Just Cause 2: Just Kos.

I traded it on Goozex a few weeks ago after playing it for all of half an hour when it came out. Grr.
