Ahoy!

I know nothing about excercise equpiment, and I know that I'd never use any of it because excercising is tremendously dull. But I love running, and would get a lot of use out of a treadmill. However, I do not know which one to get. I basically would like something cheap but reliable, preferably electric, and with as many settings as possible for, oh, let's say under £200. Some of the prices I've seen make me want to cry, frankly. Do any of you lovely people have any recommendations?

EDIT: Just googled treadmills, my, they ARE expensive. Have you looked in the classifieds for a second hand one?

That wasn't so much an edit as a whole new post. Must learn to use the internet.

Looks nice. Do you think they'd deliver?

I opted for a rowing machine as I figured it'd be more interesting than running but I was wrong - it's boring too.

I think that's the problem with much of this kind of stuff - the boredom eeking in. I guess if you stick with it, though, make it routine, than that might dissipate. Perseverance, then. And an iPod.

I too, would like a recommendation for a decent treadmill. I bought a cheap one for the winter (love to jog, but fairweather only) and it was severely crap.

If I weren't too ugly to go out jogging, I wouldn't be asking. Hmph.

Thing is, I'm also quite lazy, and hate being hot and away from a shower, and would last about five minutes outside before my hayfever killed my face. Indoors, though, I could listen to music properly, go in short 20 minutes bursts so I wouldn't get too bored, have a shower or rinse my eyes the minutes I got too uncomfortable, and more importantly, pretend I'm, say, dashing along the docks in order to leap onto the departing ship carrying my girlfriend away forever. Or chasing a nazi scientist as he runs off with the antidote, or whatev. That makes it more fun. If I did that kind of thing outside, I'd probably end up getting carried away and jumping in the canal.

But I must admit, I didn't think of looking for second-hand ones. Ta, meems.

It will become an expensive clothes rack..... for 200 notes that is a gym membership for a year.

Would you consider an exercise bike or are you set on a treadmill? My flatmate got herself a nice exercise bike and it's pretty nifty.

Nah, I'll use it a lot. I've always enjoyed running (I get the urge to just run while walking down the street sometimes) and used to use my mum's excercise bike most days when she took it out of storage. I'm an enormous cheapskate and wouldn't ever even consider something as ridiculously expensive as this without knowing I'd use the fuck out of it. A gym, on the other hand, would be a total, utter waste of money. I am about nine million times more likely to use a treadmill than I am to ever even look at a gym, let alone use one, let alone use one regularly.

Also I could really do with a clothes rack, so it's win-win.

I'd consider an excercise bike, but to be honest, given the choice I'd rather just get nothing if I couldn't get a treadmill. I wouldn't use a bike enough, and it wouldn't give me as good a workout.

Get one with MP3 so you can have 'Road to nowhere' on loop.

Then act the cunt, just like David Thing.

Go road running instead. It's free and you'll get some fresh air. I go to Thieve's Wood (part of Sherwood Forest) most Saturdays and blat around there for a couple of hours.

'Fresh air' with my sinuses means 'three minutes of thinking this is rather nice, then two hours of clawing at your face and snorting salt water in an effort to be able to breathe'. And I'm too ugly to run outside anyway.

Generally, yeah, this. At least it's always been this way with me. I've had exercise bikes in the past, and a rowing machine, and they were all quite lovely and got used for a while, but then boredom sets in. Personally, I have to be outside and walking or something, to stick to any form of exercise.

I enjoy rowing, as it complements rugby quite well. I bought a rowing machine years ago... it is in the shed, but odly enough I go to the gym quite a bit..
