Why? Burnout isn't remotely obscure. Presumably we're talking about Paradise? If so, this is stupid and Burnout night should be moved.

Because it's the release date for the new downloadable content for BP, so everyone will be playing it on Monday night, so obscure night has been suspended for a week.

But, we don't all own Burnout Paradise. Why suspend the obscure night? I'd still like to play an obscure game with other non-paradise owners. Who is it that actually made this decision to "suspend" the obscure night? It certainly wasn't me, and I'm one of the people who wants to take part. Make your Burnout night on Monday, but you can't suspend the obscure night and label in Burnout night. Change the news ticker.

You can't just wade in and shit on something because the vocal majority want to do something else.

Assuming you meant to say "Could we change the news ticker so I can arrange an obscure night?", done.

Wasn't it Sheepeh's decision to suspend Obscure Night for a month? As he's "mother" for Obs night anyway surely he can suspend it if he wants to?

So I can continue with the obscure night, rather than have it removed without explanation and replaced with a session of a game I don't even have. Burnout Paradise isn't obscure, and it shouldn't replace the obscure night. Instead, if you want to do your own thing, fine, just leave the obscure night alone. I'm sorry, but this annoyed me a little.

I was under the impression that it doesn't really belong to anyone. Sheepeh was just kind enough to organise it in the first place.

If you want to start an obscure night poll for Monday, go for it and I'll stick it in the ticker.

There has been loads of discussion about this. As moderators, of course you can set up your own obscure night poll, and put it in the news ticker.

Not as a moderator: Dear God, you don't half moan if things aren't going the way you want.

I don't own anything that's been played on the obscure nights yet either. :'(

We are a democracy, most people who have partaken in the Obs nights have been looking forward to the new BP DLC that's all.

Right, we are a democracy. Why not let us all have a say in it then? I didn't know anything about this, and I've just realised that obscure night has been replaced with something else and I didn't even get a chance to have a say on it. Where did this discussion take place? Page 7 of some unrelated thread?

I don't expect to learn everything that is said on these forums, and I also don't expect to be informed about things I've missed out on. It's my fault for not reading them. BUT, I keep an eye on threads that matter to me, and the obscure night thread is one of them. However, I didn't notice any of this "let's play burnout instead" discussion in there. I just noticed an unexplained news ticker thing.

It's sounds as if there's no way of playing certain XBox 360 games with people on your friends list other than via the medium of the Obscure Night thread.

I'm worried. Do I need my Xbox fixed?

I don't really understand what you're saying here. But I'm complaining about the fact that our obscure night has been replaced by something else, and I didn't even know about it.

Actually, Burnout not-obscure night is an ideal break, we need to work out some way of having a poll where everyone can see what you've voted for, thus stopping people from voting frivolously and not turning up.

see Sega Rally. Minimum of twelve people voted for that, and yet we failed to fill a six player server.

See, this is the problem with you not knowing what you're talking about. This has nothing to do with the mods, all they did is put something on the news ticker.
We'll put your obscure thing on the ticker, too, if you ever do it.

Sheepeh isn't a mod.

I always assumed democracy had something to do with the wishes of the majority.

Hmm, possible. It's perhaps easier for people just to post what they want, though.

[edit]Actually, hmm - that might not be as hard as it sounds. It'd have to be a normal poll, though - not a euro-vote one.

Oh, stop being an arse. Obscure Night is in no way a BETEO-organised, BETEO-sanctioned event. (Neither is Forza night, for that matter).

It's Sheepeh's idea, Sheepeh goes through the pain of organising it, despite frustrations like low-turnouts, etc, and if Sheepeh would rather play Burnout this monday, then he is entirely entitled to cancel obscure night, and no-one can force him to do it against his will. If you want one to happen, then you've got to organise it, host it, or whatever it requires.

It's not like sheepeh's charging £2 a month for it or anything.

Will he have to get holiday cover if he goes away?

I didn't say it was a BETEO sanctioned event, and I wouldn't be adverse to organising it myself, in fact, I was going to as soon as I got home from work (so I could check what games I have).

But, I can't be arsed any more. This forum seems to make me want to argue with people. And furthermore, it appears that people want to argue with me, just for the crack.

Not really, no. You started with a very good point. There is no reason why obscure night shouldn't still exist, other than Sheepeh, the fine gentleman who organised and sweated over it for the last 3 times wants to play Burnout that night. The problem is that once people agreed with you and said "go for it!", you seemed to want to belabor the point over and over again and got increasingly more confrontational about it. For what it's worth, I'll add my tuppence on the "go for it!" pile.

Jonarob - it's really as simple as the guy who runs and organises the Obscure Night wants to play Burnout that week. Anybody is welcome to play any game they so desire, and if you want to organise to play something like Table Tennis, Sega Rally, Top Spin 2 (which is ace) or any other game, you're more than welcome to do so.

Gah.

Obscure Night is my baby, not BETEO's. Not anyone else's. NOONE'S.

Burny Pee is getting new free content on Monday, and

a) I want to play it, and I'm going to
b) Most of the regulars for Obscure Night will be playing too
c) It was talked about in various places that the next poll was "Burny Pee, Burny Pee or Burny Pee" because I wanted to play Burny Pee. As it's my night, I'll put whatever I bloody well want in the poll, thanks.

Dimdims then said that he'd host it, at 10PM (which I was grateful for as a 9:30 start is always pushing it a bit for me) and I have no issues with that as Dimdims is *always* mother for these things and he's a Bezzie I know will actually show up. Nudge, nudge.

If you had a problem with it, you were welcome to PM me at any time about it, or say "Hey, guys, anyone not playing Burny Pee on Monday, want to play <Game X>?"

So there you have it.

Obscure Night, Burny Pee, BECAUSE I BLOODY WELL SAID SO, 10PM, Monday.

There's always the "playing on line now" thread for garnering fellow players for any particular game you want to play. A good idea of whoever started that one.

In the past, we've had a fair few games that we've just started on the spur of the moment. But it only tends to be the people we know are likely to play that we invite, and only the games we know people like playing. Every now and then something more obscure comes along that we play, but more commonly not. The point behind obscure night (as I saw it) was to get some of the less known games into circulation, and with greater numbers than we'd otherwise get (*cough*Sega Rally*cough*)

Mr. Dave speaks the truth.

I just got a little bit bored with the constant CoddyWoddyFoursies/Forza playing and decided to do something about it. Happily, it seems to have mostly caught on as I do like to go back and play old games from time to time. Especially as when I first owned them I didn't experience them with Bezzie Action, playing randoms is kinda crappy.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone on my friends list (which is anyone who's used Grim...'s automagic adder) is more than welcome to fire me an invite to anything they want at any time. That's kinda the point of me being on it. If I'm busy, I'll send a quick message back saying so but more often than not I'll happily play anything I own.

People do seem to believe that "The Bezzies" is some kind of cliquey group that you can only get in to by being part of "The Network" but it really truly isn't. After all, they'd been playing with each other a long time before I joined the boards, and I play with them at least once a week, usually more. Some of this comes from things like Forza only having an 8 person limit which naturally means the "regulars" are going to get first invites...not sure much can be done about that apart from getting enough people to run 2 rooms. It's unfortunate but it's how it is. I don't always manage to make it in time for Forza night either, but I don't expect people to leave the game for me if I turn up late...

I can understand shyness, for example Tsu Much played the other night and admitted on the forum he was too shy to talk. Pretty much everyone on this board has some kind of anxiety issues as we uncovered in another thread. It's not a major problem if you don't want to talk, but if you wear your headset anyway so you can hear things and get used to each persons voice and just chime in here and there. Call Myoptika a name, instant win. Sing one of Dimrill's little songs, if you're feeling brave. It really doesn't matter, but I at least will accept anyone in to my games who asks (and there's room left).

You're never online. In fact, I've massacred your gamerscore in the last 6 months - you used to be miles ahead of me!

I also find it amusing, though I would have liked to get the Burny P update.
