That $750m is only through purchases from their online shop, where they sell ships to use in-game, for frankly ridiculous sums of money.

Except, with a couple of exceptions, there isn't any way to use most of the ships in the game, so they're essentially just selling JPEGs of ships that may or may not ever make it into the game.

It is honestly impressive to me that they've managed to build up such a cult following around the game, that are willing to spend hundreds (and in some cases, thousands, and in some cases, MANY thousands) of dollars on these JPEGs and other 'pledges', when there is practically no game to speak of that can be played -- and what can be played isn't remotely stable enough to be called a game.

Many people, myself included, criticise Elite: Dangerous as being a mile wide but an inch deep in terms of gameplay scope... but it's still a helluva lot more polished and finished than Star Citizen seemingly ever will be.

Well, as Grim... said ten years ago, they're probably better off just stretching this thing out forever, rather than actually ever releasing a finished game.

Freelancer on PC twenty-ish years ago was the one. The mouse-driven dogfighting was so good.

Oh, 100%. I'm just amazed that they can stretch it out. How people aren't voting to lynch them Mafia-style by now, I have no idea.

Gamblers fallacy. Some of these people have spent thousands, they'd need to face up to the stupidity of that. It's easier to hope.
